Kids and Cohousing
Kids and Cohousing
kids and adults in community--
OUR Guidelines
We spent many Parents-Kids Meetings discussing guidelines for our kids and the adults in our community, as well as discussing it at General Meetings. We came up with a long list of what seemed like “rules”, which didn’t feel right. Then we returned to talking about values and decided that this was a better approach. In our interactions with our children, we want to consider these values. We made a mnemonic to remember.

what the kids say about yulupa
• I don’t like “all the rules”, but there are kids to play with that are my age. --12 years
• Cohousing is good. You’re only 5 houses away from your friend. You can make lots of friends. You can ride kids’ scooters and skitters. --7 years

what the parents and grandparents say about yulupa
• It’s not only that it’s convenient and easy for parents, it’s great for kids--it feel safe. When I was a kid we played outside without adult supervision. Kids also profit from the creativity and strengths of all of the adults in the community--it’s a rich experience for all of us.
• We came to have a place for our kid to play with other kids of various ages. It’s a great opportunity for kids to play together and to provide a larger “family” for them.
